Nominations for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards were announced today, December 6 at The Music Box @ Fonda in Hollywood. Among this year's distinguished nominees was Michala Petri for her album MOVEMENTS, nominated in the "Best Classical Contemporary Composition" category for her world premiere recording of Joan Albert Amargós  "Northern Concerto".

At the nomination announcement, Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy said "This year's nominations truly reflect a diverse and talented community of artists and creators who represent some of the most exceptional music of the year. The GRAMMY Awards process once again has yielded a comprehensive group of excellent nominees and coupled with the fact that it's our milest one 50th year, this year's telecast promises music fans a spectacular show filled with stellar performances and unique 'GRAMMY Moments' for which Music's Biggest Night has come to be renowned."

The 50th Annual Grammy Awards will be presented at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Feb. 10, 2008. CBS-TV will broadcast the event live.

"Spirits - East meets West" on CCTV

From China: On Sunday December the 2th CCTV Music Channel will broadcast a 32 minutes live DVD recorded April the 1th this year at Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek in Copenhagen. Togetner with Chinese Xiao player Chen Yue and guitarist Lars Hannibal, Michala plays traditional European and Chinese music.

Michala has after 4 years released a new CD with Vivaldi´s "The Four Seasons" and Saint-Saëns "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso".
Thomas Dausgaard conducts the Swedish Chamber Orchestra.
On this recording Michala is using the "Modern Recorder" invented by Nik Tarasov and Joachim Paetzold, produced by Mollenhauer, and the new "Ehlert Alto" designed by Ralf Ehlert and produced by Moeck. The new instruments differs from the baroque recorders in having more dynamic possibilities and a bigger range of notes.

A new composition for Michala has just been finished by Russian composer Artem Vassiliev, and will be premiered at this years Lockenhaus Festival in Austria.

Trip to China and Korea

In october Michala, together with Lars Hannibal, had her China debut in the Shanghai International Festival of Arts in He Luting Hall at Shanghai Conservatory of Music. During their stay in Shanghai they also played an Open Air Concert -right in the center of Shanghai on the new great stage on the famous Nanjing Road.
They also participated in the Shanghai International Arts Fair. Here, and during her visit in China alltogether, she came to know Chinese composers and musicians, with whom she in the nearest future will start to collaborate.
The concert in Korea took place in the newly build Chung Mu Art Hall in Seoul. A beauitful hall with a superb acoustic, made especially for chamber music.

Re-release of Händel Sonatas

In connection with the 60 years birthday of Keith Jarrett earlier this year BMG re-released the recording of Georg Frederic Handel´s sonatas for recorder and harpsichord. Michala and Keith Jarret released the sonatas in 1991, and for many weeks it kept its place at Billboard Magazine´s top-10.

"Siesta" - new CD

After their "Kreisler Inspirations" with arrangements of famous violin pieces Michala and Hannibal have now recorded a new album - this time of southern American and southern European music originally for flute and guitar. Villa-Lobos: Bachianas Brasilieras, Piazzolla: Histoire du Tango and Castelnuovo-Tedesco: Sonatina are amongst the works on this CD, which is planned for release in the late summer 2006

Verbier Festival & Academy 2005

Again this year Michala was invited to participate in the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. She spend almost 2 weeks there and did 3 concerts in different connections. For the first time she played Mozart Quartet for flute and strings in D major K 285, with Janine Jansen, violin, Julian Rachlin, viola and Ralph Kirshbaum, cello.
She also did a recital with Lars Hannibal, and participated in the Joshua Bell "Carte Blance Concert", playing the flute part in Saint-Saëns: "Carnival of the animals".
In Verbier during the festival period, you get so much inspiration from hearing concerts with some of the finest musicians of today, also from meeting collegues from all over the world. The atmosphere is very special, and the idea of having also a full orchestra with young musicians from all over the world makes this festival unique!

Concert at London´s Wigmore Hall

Sunday the 26th Michala and Hannibal returned to play a concert at the Wigmore Hall. It was, as always, a joy to play in this marvellous accoustic and very special atmosphere. One can almost feel the spirit of all the great artist who has played there during the years!
The repertoire was very new for the duo, and included works for flute and guitar by Mauro Giuliani, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Astor Piazzolla.

In a few days "Los Angeles Street Concerto"- the CD with music by Thomas Koppel will be released on DACAPO records. Three pieces are on the CD: Moonchilds Dream, with Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra; Neles Dances, with Lars Hannibal on archlute, and Los Angeles Street Concerto with Kremerata Baltica.
Sadly Thomas Koppel died few months ago, and the CD will be released on what would have been his 62nd Birthday, on April 27.
